Basics of Transferring from a California Community College to California State University (CSU) or University of California (UC)
Minimum Upper Division Transfer Requirements to the CSU
1. General Education (GE) Requirements
- To be eligible for transfer to a California State University (CSU), students must meet the "Golden Four" requirements, which include completing courses in English Composition, Oral Communication, Critical Thinking, and College-Level Mathematics with a grade of C or better.
- Complete 10 general education courses (30 semester units), with a grade of C- or better, from either the CSU GE Pattern or the IGETC.
2. Minimum Units & GPA
- 60 CSU-Transferable Semester Units must be completed by the end of spring prior to fall enrollment at CSU. This includes GE courses and major preparation courses.
- Have an overall college GPA of at least 2.00; your GPA is calculated using all your transfer units attempted. Certain majors and schools may require a much higher minimum GPA.
3. Major Preparation
- Complete specific courses required for your intended major. Check assist.org for more information about your specific major at specific campuses and speak with your counselor.
