UC Santa Barbara TAG Requirements

UC Santa Barbara Fall 2025

Transfer Admission Guarantee Tips

When to write a TAG:
  • UC Santa Barbara will accept TAGs September 1 - 30.
  • Students must also submit the UC admissions application by December 2nd.

TAG Not Available for the Following Majors: All majors in the College of Creative Studies and College of Engineering; Dance B.A., Dance  B.F.A., Music B.M., Theater B.F.A. in the College of Letters & Science.

UCSB Eligibility Criteria:
  • Have a 3.4 cumulative UC-transferable GPA by the end of fall 2024
Selective Majors:

For the College of Letters and Science TAG, the following majors require completion of specific major preparation coursework and a minimum GPA required for major preparation courses:

Pre-Majors: Some UCSB majors require students to complete remaining major preparation courses with a minimum GPA after transfer in order to advance to full major status. For majors with these pre-major requirements, TAG applies to admission to the pre-major. Meeting TAG requirements does not guarantee that a student will fulfill the pre-major requirements after transfer. Major preparation articulation agreements include detailed information about the pre-major. Students may contact UCSB academic department advisors to discuss their plans to transfer and get more information about the pre-major. To check these requirements, visit www.assist.org

TAGs NOT available for:
  • Students who have baccalaureate degrees.
  • Students attending high school in fall 2024, even if simultaneously enrolled at a CCC.
  • Former UC students who left UC not in good academic standing.
  • Former UC Santa Barbara students except for students enrolled only in summer sessions.
  • Students who exceed 80 semester total UC-transferable units, after applying lower-division limits (students with only CCC coursework and AP/IB/A level credits will not exceed this limit).
More Tips:
  • A Student with a TAG must submit an application for admission during the priority application period.
  • PE Activity (KAD) courses - 4 units will transfer and the grades for the best 4 units can be used. Most KAD courses are considered PE Activity courses.
    • Some ATHL courses are also considered PE Activity courses and are subject to the same limits; others are considered Theory and subject to higher limits. There are no limitations on the number of units for DANCE courses
  • Transferable courses from all colleges attended must be used to determine the UC transfer GPA
